About
Jamie Lawrence is a sculptor and multimedia practitioner based in South Wales, working primarily with natural and locally sourced materials such as wood and stone. He studied at Cardiff Metropolitan University with a degree in Artist Designer: Maker, where his research focused on Wildlife, Heritage Crafts, and Environmental Art—a foundation that continues to inform his creative approach.
His work draws on the natural environments of Wales, exploring form, texture, and material in ways that engage viewers both physically and visually. Jamie has also produced and installed artworks for exhibitions, including elements such as projection, sound, and interactive features, enhancing the way audiences experience the work.
In 2022, he led forest woodworking workshops in Wisconsin, USA, using reclaimed timber to encourage sustainable, material-led making in a natural setting. He continues to run community workshops in Wales, helping young people and local groups explore traditional craft skills and environmental themes.
Jamie also volunteers on Flat Holm Island, supporting conservation of historic structures and local ecosystems. His work has been exhibited across Wales and London, and he often integrates creative problem-solving, presentation, and engagement into his practice, reflecting an understanding of how art can connect with audiences in public and heritage contexts.
